Brochan Watts

Certified Triathlon Coach.

I’ve experienced the very highest moments in endurance sport and some of the lowest. From being chronically overtrained, to standing on the top step on podiums around the world, I’ve learnt just about every lesson the hard way.

I’ve been a lifelong athlete and in the sport of triathlon for 13 or so years. I self-coached for the first 8 and have been coaching others for the last 5. And in that time, I’ve learnt the value of rest and the power of the mind.

Time-starved professionals simply don’t have the time to consolidate the training they put in with proper rest and recovery. That’s why over the past five years my wife Clare and I have been experimenting with incorporating meditation into our training plans, to quick-start the recovery process and unlock an athlete’s true potential.

Clare Edmondson Hatha yoga and mindfulness teacher.

I first came to yoga in my early 20s, though it has evolved beyond anything that I thought it was at the time (like many, I saw it as a glorified stretching regimen!).

Yoga is an ideal practice to complement your training schedule in a physical sense, but perhaps more crucially in a mental, emotional and spiritual one; endurance athletes are turning increasingly towards these practices to enhance their health, vitality and energy, which in turn enhances their performance. Mindfulness has become mainstream these days, but I think the term ‘Bodyfulness’ works more expansively; really uniting body and mind in a holistic practice.

In 2015 I did my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training in Hatha Yoga and Mindfulness, which was taught by specialists in somatics and embodiment; this completely changed the direction of my yoga practice. In 2018 I did an intensive workshop under the guidance of world-renowned Donna Farhi, and in 2019 I qualified in Pregnancy Yoga Teacher Training with Nadia Narain at Triyoga London. I am also a Reiki practitioner.

My teaching combines elements of classic hatha yoga, vinyasa flow, restorative, yin (especially good for athletes), meditation, and yoga nidra (yogic sleep).

My teaching style is based on listening to the body's needs, tuning into its natural movement and the cellular consciousness of the body. Your body is the only home you will live in for your whole life; make it beautiful, nurture it, honour it and let it be amazing!
